I recently entered my work into a student show. I think I may have mentioned this before.. Or perhaps I meant to, or it was on my other blog. I get them mixed up at times. But anyways. I got really stressed about the printing because wall greens wouldn't do it, and I got kinkos to but they were getting the measurements wrong and I wanted to get it printed on canvas but the guy to frame canvas wouldn't be in 'till next week blah blah blah... I luckily got it printed and framed in time for the show. I was super stoked because I thought I would make it in but here's the twist! I didn't make it. I was super upset about it because I thought my piece was good. My boyfriend kept telling me, "It's not that your picture was a bad one, it just didn't fit in with the rest." Which he was right about, I looked through the student show and my photo wouldn't have fit in with the rest of the work. I was really down on myself but I know that won't help anyone! So if your down, don't think your art work is good enough, don't think you should even try then stop thinking! And just keep doing what you love!
You are your own worst critic! The one person who can make you stop doing everything you love is yourself! Sometimes our own thoughts are poisons. And we just need to get them out! Do not let one bad experience ruin your whole life! I realize just because I didn't make it into this show doesn't mean I won't ever make it into a show! We have to fight for what we love to do! Whether you want to be an artist, actor/actress, musician, producer, rocket scientist, make up artist, hairstylist, the list goes on.... you must keep trying even when you think you might fail. Chances are you will fail at times, but that doesn't mean you should give up. It is just a challenge to see just how much you love what it is you do.
A friend shared this quote with me today, "If it's popular with everyone right away, it might not be art, it might just be good marketing. But if it earns attention and respect over time, if it wins over the skeptical, then you've really created something." -Seth Godin
Here is the piece I entered into the show if you would like to see. :] Everyone have a great week.
